False Alarm Prevention

Did you know that 80% of all false alarms are cause by owner error1? False alarms result in a response from the police or fire department when there is no emergency and cause the following:

  • Take police or fire professionals away from legitimate emergencies
  • Are a nuisance to you and other businesses
  • Make your security system less reliable
  • Make you reluctant to use your security system
  • Cost you money through false-alarm fees

Monitronics and the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NPFAA) recommend you take these easy steps to prevent false alarms:

1. Become familiar with how to operate your system and how to use its features.

2. Read and retain the operator's manual for your security system.

3. Make sure everyone who has a key to your business knows how to operate the security system.

4. Rehearse alarm cancellation with everyone who might use your system.

5. If your system does not seem to be working properly, complete our Service Repair Request form, or call 800.447.9239.

6. Call Monitronics if you change your phone number or plan to move.

7. Test your alarm system regularly.

Testing Your Alarm System
Regular testing of your security system can help ensure its proper operation at the time of an emergency and help prevent false alarms. Monitronics recommends that customers test their systems at least once per month.

To test your security system, call Monitronics at 800.447.9239. A Customer Service representative will give you instructions on how to test your system.

To avoid a false alarm, notify Monitronics when you will be testing your system to prevent the alarm monitoring station from dispatching authorities to respond to the alarm signal.
